Fall is the time of year when we clean up around our homes, farms, and businesses in preparation for winter. Now is the time to put away the tools and equipment that were used all through the growing season. This cool weather that has been ushered in makes for great working temperatures!

Before all the leaves fall from the trees and the snow piles up high, gather up all your plastics and recycle the eligible materials!

Bundle up that drip tape as you lift it from the rows, but make sure you keep and reuse those pricey fittings and nozzles! They’ll come in handy next year! Simply remove the crop material as the tape is wound up into a manageable size. Store it somewhere where the leaves can’t get mixed into it until you are ready to send it off for recycling.

All of the starter trays, pots, and flats that are taking up space can be sent off to recycle, too!

Did you know that you can earn 5 cents a pound by for the #6 polystyrene material? Simply have it separated from the other material and if it is a large volume, have it stacked on a pallet! We do accept the #2 hdpe and #5 polypropylene pots and trays as well! However, we can only offer free disposal at this time on those. All material must be reasonably clean and dry! Knock out the potting soil. You paid for it and we don’t need it!

Consider trying our trash can liners that are 50% recycled plastic. Much of our plastic film material that we take for recycling is turned into trash can liners by a manufacturer in New York. Our trash bags are listed under the new product tab, so be sure to check it out! Our most popular bag is the 1.8 mil thick 55 gallon bag. They fit great into 55 gallon cut off barrels that many businesses, parks, and special events use. They are competitively priced, but may not in some instances be the cheapest when compared to the same thickness of bag from another manufacturer. However, many customers have found that they hold up to the task better due to the quality of material. Also, by purchasing these liners, customers can be glad they are supporting agricultural & commercial plastics recycling right here in the mid Atlantic region since they are made from the material used in this area. Thinking of baling plastic at your location to ship to us? Let us share some helpful information with you!

One customer tried using a round baler to roll it up. First, few companies can unroll or shred a round bale of plastic. It needs to be fed in by “slices”. Second, the bale started to melt along the edges and started to smoke and became a very dangerous situation!

We have had a customer bring in small square bales such as what is seen above. The problem with this bale right off the bat is that there is 5 different materials in there with very different melt points, chemical make-up, and end use possibilities! The correct way to do this would be to bale the 4 materials ( strings, bale wrap, bunker cover, and softener salt bags) as separate bales. Dispose of the net wrap, as it is not recyclable. However……

CAUTION! This is extremely dangerous!!! Using these machines to bale plastic is asking for trouble!

Plastic being fed into the baler can move fast even with the tractor at idle. It can wrap around a person’s leg without their knowledge as they are concentrating on feeding the baler. Trust us! We know as we have done it ourselves! We wanted to see if this would be a option for our customers. Then there is the fire risk!

We don’t want to hear of a customer having a fire, injury, or worse yet a fatality due to trying to pre-bale. Please just keep it sorted, clean, and dry as you generate the material.
